Back from Beijing
Just got back from Beijing. I have more thoughts on that city, for those that can stand them, but I’ll be posting them in a few days. In the meantime, you can read Brendan’s account of my little meetup with him.

Oh my god, please don’t rant as a lot!
Rant? Me? 😛
Don’t worry, it won’t be like that…
haha, little meetup between you two guys but great meetup with the missionaries.
so why they asked Brendan not you, John? cos you look not Pekingese at all? LOL
YES!!!! I’d love to be a Christian, but me, a white person who has just admitted being from the US, a predominatedly Christian nation, have never known exactly how to go about signing up as one of the Faithful. Thank goodness for Chinese missionaries to set me on the path of righteousness.
I am sorry, but ever since I read that ex-Time writer’s overly pro-Christianity in China book, I have a very hard time respecting the religion in this country (on the whole) as speaking in tongues, blindly believing in faith healing over actual modern medical care, and their zealous wish and belief that only they can march to Jerusalem converting everyone along the way comes off as just plain silly, ignorant, arrogant, and twists and distorts one of the world’s great religions while simultaneously shitting on most of the others.
kastner,
Maybe I looked mean?
Not sure how the conversation would have gone if they asked me, since I am Christian…
hi john,
just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog. I was surprised and honored to see that, since I basically spent the last month doing nothing but reading your site (which I love). anyway, I’m in China now and having a blast so far.
You probably just look like you’re already saved.
I dunno, sounded like pretty good missionaries to me, I’m already more sympathetic to their cause.
